INFRA is also involved at the international level in co-organising training programmes such as the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), Third Country Training Programme (TCTP) as well as joint programmes between INFRA and the Commonwealth Secretariat (COMSEC). | | | Our History | YAB Tun Haji Abdul Razak bin Hussein
| The Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA) began from the vision and determination of the late Tun Haji Abdul Razak bin Hussein who at the time had the aspiration of changing the fate of the rural people through a strategy of developing the rural areas and empowering the rural people's potentials. INFRA was formally founded in 1996 when the proposal to establish a Rural Development Training Institute was presented in a Special Committee meeting to Study the Highest Position (JKTT) chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Government held on 13th October 1995 affirmed the establishment of INFRA vide the reorganisation of the SEDAR Institute (Institute for Socio-Economic Development and Attitudinal Re-Orientation). The Board of Ministers’ agreement on the certification of JKTT on 6th March 1996 signified the official establishment of a rural community institute known as INFRA. The establishment of INFRA is the beginning of the government's new efforts towards developing the rural areas and its communities. INFRA was established during the time Dato’ Annuar Musa was the Minister of Rural Development, however, the saplings of this institution has been sowed as early as the time of Dato’ Seri Shariff Ahmad when the Rural Studies Training Institute or (Institut Latihan Pengajian Desa) was established while he was at the helm of the Ministry of Agriculture circa the 1970s. This vocational-like institute was later re-named as the SEDAR Institute in 1980 by Dato’ Seri Sanusi Junid who was the Minister of Rural Development at the time. In 1996, based on the approval given by the Board of Ministers, Dato’ Annuar Musa proposed that the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA) be established as a world class national rural training and research institution. | Location of INFRA Sabah and Sarawak Branch
| During the reorganising of INFRA which was approved on 1st September 2005, INFRA extended its reach by opening branches in Sabah and Sarawak. These branches are managed by the INFRA head office in Kuala Lumpur. On 1st February 2008, INFRA’s Sabah and Sarawak Branches moved to rented premises in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, respectively. |
